October INTERN Spotlight: Jen Petrie (she/her)

Introducing, Jen!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hi, I’m Jen (she/her)! I am a white, queer, middle-aged therapist. I use an affirming and anti-oppressive approach and center people as the experts in their own lives. I love co-creating a soft place to hold what arises, and I am honored to learn from the constant reframe of hearing what is behind other people’s perspectives.

In my time off, I tend to my relationships as a pup parent, chosen family member, and spouse. I enjoy a good book, especially a memoir. I love a mild adventure, and I’m a physical therapy enthusiast (these things are related).

When did you first know that you wanted to pursue this career path/how have your interests and passions developed over time?

I’ve been curating a bookshelf of titles about relationships and mindfulness for much of my adult life. My own therapy helped me build confidence in pursuing this passion professionally.

Do you have any creative outlets or interests? Tell us about them!

I have been a sign maker for 20 years. I love hand lettering and many crafts - it’s always been about process for me.

Which of GWB’s values do you feel connected to? Why?

It’s so hard to choose - these are some real bedrock principles! Increasingly, community stands out to me as one of my foundational values. Community describes the land we live on, the beings we share life with, and the larger human family. None of us can do this alone; we are interdependent. As Jacklyn says, “community is healing.”

What is your go-to coffee or tea order?

In the morning, it’s a half-caf pourover; in the afternoon, it’s a niiice green tea.
